Portuguese cities and villages
Larger Portuguese cities are located in the costal area being the largest one Lisbon which is the capital of Portugal. Porto is very famous by its wine, Coimbra its known as an old University town. Some of the towns with historic centre in the Unesco World Heritage List are Évora, Guimarães and Porto. Apart from the historic centre from larger cities they tend to have a less personalized character than many typical villages.

There are a few very interesting Portuguese villages from which a trip might cause a long last impression. Probably the best know is Obidos. But there are others equally interesting such as Monsanto da Beira, Monsaraz e Marvão. In the warmer south the typical constructions tend to be painted in white whereas in the North the houses tend to be made out of stone.
